Focus: Embracing delays

Date : Friday, November 3rd - 10.30 - 11.00 >

Description:Why are delays essential to the process of making a video game? Everyone is complaining about the fact videogames are almost all the time delayed. But what if it was related to its core nature? What if we are fooling ourselves trying to believe that we'll manage to predict 2, 3 or 4 years a release date before we even start the development? Why cannot we reproduce what other industries (like movies) are doing? Let's try to approach this “issue” as a fact, change our mindset and find appropriate solutions to work around this: new way of making a contract, a planning, and even new tools.
Intended audience: Producers - Studio heads / leads - Business developers - Finance team
Key takeaways: - Get a new vision of game production - Better take into account its R&D nature when planning - Learn how to explain shifts to business / financial teams and help them to integrate this in their forecasts - Consider new ways of making milestone plan and contract - Get away from the firefighter mindset - Think of future production tools we would need to better produce games
